Nutrition:
- Feed made by Dr. Norman Evans, DVM formulated
especially for alpacas.
- CBC, Chem panel, Elemental panel of our alpacas
to determine ideal balances, so that they may
be properly supplemented with the appropriate
vitamins and minerals.
- All pastures, hay and water tested for mineral
deficiencies to establish a baseline.
- Electrolytes added to water during warmer
weather.
Care:
- Accurate and comprehensive health records.
- Regular, scheduled herd maintenance including
toenail trimming, regular weighing and body
score monitoring, monthly de-worming programs
and annual vaccinations.
- Quarantine of new arrivals.
- Pastures and barns cleaned twice daily.
Training:
- Definitive handling procedures ensure alpacas
are caught up, touched and trained in a consistent,
quiet, stress-free and respectful manner.
- Every cria born on our farm is trained for
easy haltering and leading using a combination
of techniques derived from Linda Tellington-Jones
TTouch, John Mallon and Marty McGee Bennett.
- Each cria is taught to cooperatively stand
for weighing and to understand their own ability
to balance for toenail trimming.
- Our alpacas are known for their calmness and
approachability.
