Our FarmOur Approach   

The calm disposition and regal bearing of our alpacas is a direct result of their treatment.
Our policies and procedures always put the alpacas’
well being first and foremost.

 

Nutrition:

  • Feed made by Dr. Norman Evans, DVM formulated especially for alpacas.
  • CBC, Chem panel, Elemental panel of our alpacas to determine ideal balances, so that they may be properly supplemented with the appropriate vitamins and minerals.
  • All pastures, hay and water tested for mineral deficiencies to establish a baseline.
  • Electrolytes added to water during warmer weather.

Care:

  • Accurate and comprehensive health records.
  • Regular, scheduled herd maintenance including toenail trimming, regular weighing and body score monitoring, monthly de-worming programs and annual vaccinations.
  • Quarantine of new arrivals.
  • Pastures and barns cleaned twice daily.

Training:

  • Definitive handling procedures ensure alpacas are caught up, touched and trained in a consistent, quiet, stress-free and respectful manner.
  • Every cria born on our farm is trained for easy haltering and leading using a combination of techniques derived from Linda Tellington-Jones’ TTouch, John Mallon and Marty McGee Bennett.
  • Each cria is taught to cooperatively stand for weighing and to understand their own ability to balance for toenail trimming.
  • Our alpacas are known for their calmness and approachability.
